Get the gear.

More Gear? Yep. The uncertainty of traveling in the backcountry and associated dangers requires you to have a unique set of safety equipment (and the knowledge of how to use it).

In this section, learn what gear is necessary to travel in the backcountry and tips on how to use it. Don’t miss the video from Tahoe Backcountry Alliance on etiquette tips that make everyone’s experience better.

That being said, even if you have the proper gear, you need to learn how to use it. We encourage you to complete an AIARE Level 1 course or hire a guide service if you plan on heading into the backcountry.
