Description

This training, provided by the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, is designed to provide chainsaw certification for volunteers, agency staff and partners working in support of trail projects. All instruction is focused on being a safe and efficient sawyer in performing saw work common to trail maintenance and trail construction. This two-day training serves to insure safe sawing habits, upgrade skills, and provide the opportunity for a USFS certification. Students will have a classroom instruction day the first day, followed by a full day of field work the second day, which will include instruction, hands-on saw operation, evaluation and certification. Attending this training does not guarantee certification. Certification cards will only be issued to those who exhibit proficiency, safety and leadership using the saw.

Our field location will involve hiking off trail over rough terrain, up to ¾ mile from the vehicles, and there will not be an opportunity to go offsite for lunch. There may be snow in the field, please prepare for this possibility.
