Our connection to Take Care

The League to Save Lake Tahoe, also known by its “Keep Tahoe Blue” slogan, is Lake Tahoe’s oldest and largest nonprofit environmental advocacy organization. Founded in 1957, the League is a solutions-based organization, focused on advocating for sensible environmental standards backed by science and monitoring, devoted community engagement, grassroots involvement, and a collective ideology of working together to Keep Tahoe Blue. The League advocates to ensure strong environmental protections through innovative policy development, educates and engages the public about how to protect Lake Tahoe, and collaborates with stakeholders to find solutions to environmental challenges at Lake Tahoe.

The League was a founding member and funder of the Take Care campaign, which lines up neatly with its campaigns to Keep Tahoe Blue. Each year the League organizes beach and community cleanups through which hundreds of community members take a hands-on role in efforts to protect Lake Tahoe’s shoreline. The League also coordinates citizen science programs to address the top two threats to the Lake’s clarity: stormwater pollution and aquatic invasive species.
