Learn the foundations of backcountry touring with Alpenglow Expeditions’ professional mountain guides in Shirley Canyon! Join us for an exclusive Intro to Backcountry Touring Clinic designed for beginner backcountry skiers & splitboarders to get comfortable with the gear and movement of backcountry touring.
If conditions are not suitable for skiing, this event will cover essential aspects of backcountry touring in a classroom setting.
Led by seasoned backcountry guides and AIARE instructors, this introductory clinic will cover essential aspects of backcountry touring:
– Techniques & Tips: Receive expert guidance on efficient uphill travel techniques, including skinning and kick-turns, to maximize your backcountry experience.
– Exploration: Put your newly acquired skills into practice with a guided tour through the stunning terrain of Shirley Canyon. Experience the thrill of earning your turns and revel in the access that the backcountry offers.
Requirements:
Participants should have intermediate skiing or snowboarding abilities, possess their own equipment (or arrange rentals with Alpenglow beforehand), and have a basic level of fitness to enjoy the backcountry experience.
Location
We will meet at the Alpenglow Expeditions office and then transition to the Shirley Canyon area for the on-snow portion of the clinic.
What to Bring
– Weather-appropriate clothing (dress in layers)
– Water and snacks
– Sun protection (goggles, sunscreen, hat, etc.)
