Explore the wondrous beauty of Lake Tahoe’s backcountry through the TRTA’s four day Youth Backcountry Camp, in partnership with the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS). This program will introduce teens to the innumerable joys of backpacking as the group navigates through some of the most scenic terrain in the Tahoe Basin. All food, gear, permits, and transportation to and from trailheads is provided by the TRTA – all you need to provide are clothes, sturdy athletic shoes, and your passion for the outdoors!

This program is an introduction to backcountry travel for teens. Participants will hike three to five miles per day while learning wilderness survival and ethics, local plant and animal identification, environmental stewardship, and leadership and team-building skills from expert Tahoe Rim Trail Association and Tahoe Institute for Natural Science instructors. Days will be filled with entertaining and educational activities while nights will be spent camping near picturesque alpine lakes.
