Plastic is forever, because we make it that way. Petroleum-based plastics do not decompose.
Instead, plastics break apart into tiny pieces that never go away.
These pieces are toxic and soak up even more toxins, which poison any organism unlucky enough to ingest one. And then any larger organism that ingests that one. See where this is heading? You are a large organism.
Plastic can be incinerated, which emits toxic air pollutants. Some plastic can be recycled, but in addition to high energy costs, those new products cause all the same problems.
